Trent Reznor

Here's one that quietly slipped through the cracks.

Q & A with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails

To summarise, this particular major label..

  • underpromotes the album
  • takes credit for the artist's own promo work
  • deliberately overcharges loyal fans
  • motivates customers to steal music

Trent Reznor has already solved the problem. Unfortunately he won't get the chance to prove it until his contract expires!

New EP - Free Download!

As you might know I'm in the middle of recording the second Tunisia album.

The new tracks seem to be taking on increasingly epic-like proportions. I'm lucky to be able to churn one out every two months or so. Which is a wonderfully intense - but incredibly frustrating - way to work.

In short, it's been a long time since I actually finished a recording!

So to blow off a bit of steam, the band got together and stripped down tracks from the current Two False Idols album - much like the acoustic deconstructions performed by the duo at gigs a few months ago. And we gathered into the studio, stuffed a tiny audience in there with us, and set out to prove these songs could work without a mess of overdubs!

Which became the new EP, Under Deconstruction.

And I'm offering it here to download for free! No catch.

Why?

Well it's old news in the US, but here in Australia, the file-sharing issue is finally starting to rear its ugly head, along with the DRM debate, blah blah. Legal issues aside, I don't buy into the fear of lost revenue perpetuated by the major labels. Gosh, there might actually be benefits for artists allowing themselves to be heard freely by such a large potential audience!

When you're both the artist AND the label, you can damn well do what you want. So this is my way of putting my money where my mouth is.

Please let me know what you think.
